Electric Vehicle Repowering
AutoPort, Inc. and AC Propulsion have partnered in the design, development, and repowering of vehicles. Both companies have focused on the repowering of existing internal combustion vehicles, not on the manufacturing of new vehicles.
This strategy was developed as a result of AutoPort’s extensive interviews with their large fleet customers. Those customers showed interest in taking a fully-depreciated vehicle and converting it from an internal combustion vehicle to an all-electric vehicle with the potential of generating Vehicle to Grid (V2G) revenues, thus potentially taking the fleet operations from a cost center to a potential break even or profit center.
Vehicle to Grid conversions was the thought process that led to AutoPort and AC Propulsion being selected by the US Postal Service as one of the five teams to convert an LLV to all-electric. That vehicle is currently in service in Germantown, MD and will be outfitted using the newly developed EVSE from the University of Delaware to perform V2G.
Over the past 36 months, AutoPort has converted 7 eBoxes (Toyota Scion xB), 2 for the University of Delaware and 5 for the State of Delaware that have been in service and performing V2G.
